About Us

            Lietkoopsąjunga is a membership organization founded on democratic principles with the primary aim to defend the interests of its members and be their representative in governmental and other institutions, as well as international organizations; strengthen the economical capacity and competitive ability, maintain the connections with internal and overseas partners, and to expand and develop the cooperative movement. Lietkoopsąjunga is the member of International Cooperation Alliance (ICA), Lithuania’s Industrialist Confederation, and Lithuanian Chambers of Commerce, Industry and Crafts.

            Lietkoopsąjunga executes its power via meeting of its members, the Board and executive manager, elected for the term of four years. The supreme body of Lietkoopsąjunga is the meeting of members, which defines the general directions of Lietkoopsąjunga activity, as well as the Union’s regulations. The Management is a collegial body of power, working in between members’ meetings. The work of the Management is supervised by the executive manager. The Management consists of 7 members.

            Despite the recession and difficulties of the transitional period, partial cooperative property return to the government and market changes, Lietkoopsąjunga has remained one of the largest non-governmental organizations. At present, Lietkoopsąjunga unites more than is 70 cooperative trade companies, consumer associations and organizations of other types. The number of Union’s members amounts to 130, 000, and the number of employees – to almost 7, 000 people.

            The general activity area of Lietkoopsąjunga’s juridical members is trade. This branch gives 83 per cent of all income and employs 4,000 people.

            Every year, commodities for more that 400 million litas are sold in Lithuania. The major part of cooperative retail turnover is made up food products (bread, confectionaries, cereal, pasta, milk and meat products), household appliances, building materials, agricultural stock and other types of necessary household commodities). Cooperative trade has strong positions in rural areas, with almost 500 shops operating in the countryside.

            In different regions of Lithuania, more than 770 shops serve their clients. The general sales area of these shops exceeds 105,000 m2. There are also 80 cafés and restaurants, which can accommodate almost 4,000 people at the same time. Recently, much attention has been paid to the modernization of trade companies, as well as the development and renewal of commodities.

            Cooperative companies and members of Lietkoopsąjunga produce and sell commodities for more than 60 million litas per annum.

            The cooperative production of bread, flour, confectionaries, drinks and other products is currently on the increase. Approximately 20 percent of all bakery products made in Lithuania are produced by 18 cooperative bakeries. Lietkoopsąjunga with allying cooperatives has established the KOOPS trade system, which enables to sign general contracts with suppliers of commodities and rearrange wholesale structure. Lietkoopsąjunga collaborates with the joint-stock companies „Senukų prekybos centras“ and „Aibė“, as well as other partners of cooperative organizations. 

            Lietkoopsąjunga has established different companies to satisfy the needs of its members, including Vilnius cooperation college, wholesale networks, bakeries, mead producers, trade appliances repair outlets, recreation organization services, etc.
